The star of the docu-drama 'The Twelfth Eagle' is Balapan, Ardak's six-year-old Golden Eagle. The
eagles don't really have names, but Balapan works because it means 'eagle chick.' She was Ardak's
main hunting eagle since raising and training her as a young chick, until she was released at the end of
our summer filming session in June. Balapan is now a wild eagle, and will hopefully be raising her own chicks
someday. In 'The Twelfth Eagle,' Balapan tells her own story of living in-between the human and natural worlds,
and coming to terms with survival, friendship, betrayal and the concept of freedom.
