Aero Mongolia strikes again

In Ulaanbaatar:

Once I arrived in Ulaanbaatar I surprised Carl and Mary  by getting to the guesthouse earlier than scheduled. I hadn't slept in almost two days and was VERY glad for a bed and a nap. Then Mary and I found another surprise: the first Mongolian Irish Pub! The three of us had dinner and then hit the hay, since our flight to Bayan-Ulgii was (last-minute) rescheduled to a 5 AM departure. Another few hours' sleep and off to the airport at 3 AM. What happened to the 1:00 PM departure time?

In the air and on the road: getting to the Altai Mountains

Carl and Mary (one of our field assistants) are now on their way from California to Mongolia, to start the summer film shoot. I was supposed to be there by now, coming from London, but my connecting flight was cancelled and I'm now routed to Astana and then Almaty (both in Kazakhstan), then to Beijing, and finally to Ulaanbaatar! The bad news is that this trip is now taking about 48 hours, but the good news is that I now have a Kazakhstan stamp in my passport.
